God has installed wisdom: natural inbuilt wisdom in every creature to help them live. For example, no one teaches fish to swim, birds to fly or babies to suckle.

However, there is a special kind of wisdom that we need to receive and it is captured in God’s word. It is what distinguishes men. (Deut 4:6)

Proverbs 2:1 My son, if you RECEIVE my words, And treasure my commands within you,

Most of the challenges we face happen because we do not pay attention to the wisdom (instructions) of God’s Word.

Every time you go against God’s wisdom (word/instruction), it means that you are declaring yourself wiser than God. His wisdom will never be of benefit to you unless you receive and apply His Word/instructions.

Exodus 24:12-18 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone, and the law and commandments which I have written, that you may teach them.”….So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Moses was on the mountain for forty days and nights and when he came down, he came with instructions.

Within the instruction lies your protection, provision, etc, and if you do not apply it,  you will face the consequences of failing to obey.

Genesis 2:16-17 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

God never told Adam that there is a devil but He only gave Him an instruction not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Adam in his stubbornness chose the tree of knowledge of good and evil rather than the tree of life (Genesis 3).

The Bible contains the instructions of God but He has blessed each one of us with the power of choice: We have the option to either apply the Word or not.

Every time we choose not to follow the instructions things begin to go astray.

Proverbs 1:17 Surely, in vain the net is spread In the sight of any bird;

When satan sets up a trap for you, it will not touch you if you have insight (the wisdom and knowledge of God).

Proverbs 2:2-4 So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; [3]Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, [4]If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures;

Stop asking for a job, money, or any other materialistic thing. Begin asking God for wisdom and understanding.

What shows that someone has found the wisdom of God?

Proverbs 2:5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.

Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,…

Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; …

When you have the wisdom of God you fear God and to fear the Lord is to hate sin. Therefore whoever has wisdom will hate sin.

James 3:13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by GOOD CONDUCT that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

We shall know that you are wise by seeing your conduct: anyone who walks in wisdom will have good conduct.

James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

When a person has/ walks in wisdom, he/she will have a teachable spirit. We miss the wisdom of God because we think we know forgetting that what we know is what has kept us at that level.

Read 2 Kings 5

Prophet Elisha gave Naaman an instruction to wash in the river Jordan seven times to be healed of leprosy.

God gives us simple instructions to help us to go where we want because He is trying His best to ensure that every help we need comes to us: our role is to yield; receive the instructions and obey.

  1. A person with the wisdom of God does not have bitterness and envy.

James 3:14-15 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

Bitterness, envy, and self-seeking are not of God: it is wisdom that is from the earth and the pit of hell.
