YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH AND THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Apr 20, 2026

1 Timothy 3:14-15 [14] Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that, [15] if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. (NIV)

Being a pillar means providing stability, and being the foundation of the truth means that truth is released into the world through the Church.

Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. (NIV)

As the Church, we are the ones who give meaning to life on earth, just as salt gives taste to food. If we stop being “salty,” then we become irrelevant. Our presence in any place must make things better and bring meaning.

No matter how small you are, if you have influence, you will manifest Jesus wherever you are. That is why God is calling us to a place of consecration. (Matthew 13:31-32)

Exodus 19:4 “You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.

God carried the children of Israel to bring them to Himself, not primarily to the promised land. The number one reason God saved us is to bring us to Himself. Being with Him is the source of our transformation.

If we are to be the salt of the earth, we must practice this truth—we must develop deep fellowship with God. God wants us to love Him, and this is how we show Him that we love Him. We can never be what God wants us to be except we draw near to Him. (John 21:15-17)

Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.

Being a special treasure is tied to obedience to the instructions of God.

God cannot work with you until you are set apart. He separates you to Himself, works in you, and later sends you out as the salt and light.

That is why we must spend time waiting on Him so He can instruct us. We don’t wait for God to tell Him what we want Him to do for us, but we wait to hear instructions from Him.

Exodus 19:6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

God left us here on earth to shine for Him. Therefore, wherever we go, we must let people feel our impact and presence because we carry the fragrance of Christ.

God is calling us to raise the standard such that when people are looking for the truth, they run to the church.

This is beyond being filled with the Holy Spirit: a good reputation is what makes us stand out as the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We may not be perfect, but we must try by the grace of God to live to a high standard. (Acts 6:1, Isaiah 5:20)

God is calling the church to become the standard by taking up her place as the pillar and foundation of truth. We must be the salt of the earth and the light of the world so that we may reveal Christ.
