1. Specificity in Prayer
Many of us do not experience breakthroughs because we lack specificity in prayer. This principle also applies to spiritual warfare.
Luke 11:5 And He said to them, ‘Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, “Friend, lend me three loaves;”
The man asked for bread because he knew exactly what he wanted.
Even in Genesis 1, during creation, God did not speak everything into existence at once. He spoke each thing into existence one at a time.
2. Building Persistence
Luke 11:5–8
The confidence the man had was faith, and it caused his friend to get up because he refused to give up.
Do not be quick to let go. Stay in prayer until you register a positive response in the spirit.
Answers to prayers of vengeance do not always come immediately. Some battles take time, but you must remain persistent.
Luke 18:7–8 [7] And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? [8] I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?
God alone knows the appointed time for vengeance. Our responsibility is to remain steadfast in prayer and build spiritual momentum through positive confessions until, one day, the enemy is defeated.
Matthew 12:34
The most important words you speak are not those directed at the enemy but those you speak to yourself. That is what meditation is—speaking God’s Word to yourself.
Fill yourself to overflowing with the Word of God, and when you are confronted by the enemy, what is within you will overflow, just as it did with Jesus when He was tempted by the devil in the wilderness (Luke 4:1–13).
3. Speak from a Place of Authority
Speaking from a place of authority has everything to do with your identity.
A good example is found in John 1. John spoke of Jesus as One who was on earth while also being with the Father in heaven.
Romans 8:17 says: “…and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…”
We have the same inheritance as Christ. Though we are physically on earth, we are spiritually seated with Him in heavenly places. Therefore, we choose the position from which we speak as we contend with the devil.
Ephesians 2:6–7; Ephesians 1:21
We must be conscious that we are seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above principalities and powers. This awareness should govern our approach when dealing with the enemy.
1 Kings 17:1
Elijah stood face to face with Ahab while simultaneously standing before the Lord. The men and women of God in Scripture were deeply conscious of God’s presence. That is why they demonstrated such great power. They spoke from the presence of the Lord, and words spoken from that place carried divine authority and came to pass.
Another example is Elisha in 2 Kings. When his servant went outside and saw the city surrounded by horses and chariots, he became afraid.
Elisha then prayed to the LORD to open his eyes that he may see. Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:17)*
Elisha was conscious of two realms at the same time. Physically, he stood beside his servant, but spiritually, he was surrounded by the armies of heaven.
You must know your position and the authority you carry. You were crucified with Christ, and Christ now lives in you. Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. Therefore, before the enemy can reach you, he must first overcome God and Christ, because your life is hidden in Christ.
