1 Kings 18:20-21 So Ahab sent for all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together on Mount Carmel. [21] And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD [is] God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word.

Elijah lived in a time when Israel had backslidden: Jezebel had taken all over the nation; with the worship of idols and Baal, many of the priests of the Lord had been converted, the house of the Lord was in shambles, altars of the Lord torn down, Baal was riding in high places of authority, prophets of God were hiding in caves, wickedness had lifted its ugly head and the righteous were highly despised.

He faced confused people and discovered that he had to demonstrate power against whoever called himself God. Words were not enough.

He placed the nation on a test that whoever would answer by fire would be worshipped. (1 Kings 18:23-24)

Elijah faced a generation where the fear of God had departed from an entire nation. (Ephesians 4:19).

The sanity of any generation is preserved by the fear of God. When it departs, people begin to engage in activities that are below human standards. (1 Corinthians 8:7, Romans 1:18-32)

All kinds of evil: homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, murder, hatred, etc. are perpetuated when the fear of God has departed from the people.

The fear of God is one of The seven Spirits of God and needs to flow from the heart, otherwise, it will be religion.

Judges 2:7, 10 So the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD which He had done for Israel. When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel.

When the generation that had seen the works of God passed on, there arose one that did not know the ways of God.

What happens when you find yourself confronted with people who have lost the fear of God?

Read 1 Kings 18:36-40

This can only be sorted by the power of God. Elijah had to invoke the power of God by calling fire down from heaven which fell and consumed everything including the stones. That is when three million people bowed their knees and confessed that the Lord is God.

Egypt couldn’t let the children of Israel go out until God locked it with the power of the Divine.

Exodus 12:30 So Pharaoh rose in the night, he, all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for [there was] not a house where [there was] not one dead.

The fear of God was upon nations because they knew there was a God among the nation of Israel because of the pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night (the tangible manifestation of the power of God).

The reason why people play and mock the church today is that the power that causes men to stay calm is absent. That’s why we as a generation must make up our minds that it can’t be business as usual, we must take a stand in the presence of God and say, “Lord enough is enough, shake the heaven and earth again that men may know that there is a  God! ” Isaiah 13:13.

Daniel 4:32-33…That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ [feathers] and his nails like birds’ [claws.]

Daniel 4:34 And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: For His dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom [is] from generation to generation.

King Nebuchadnezzar was puffing an entire kingdom because of the power and wealth he had. His power and wealth had created arrogance in him that he even ignored the dream that was interpreted to him but he was reduced in his kingly regalia to eating grass like an animal yet no one sat on his throne.

God was communicating to him that He is the giver of power. He later came to his senses by the mighty hand of God.

This is the place where we need to step into. We need the power to draw the attention of evil men to say that the Lord is God.

In the days of Elijah, it was fire, but today, it may not be fire but there is something that God can do that will cause people to bow their knees and say that, ” The Lord is God”.
