THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR CHOICES

Jul 26, 2023

Where you are today is a result of the choices and daily decisions you have made over time. We don’t plug into the centre of God’s will in one day, but it is the single steps we make over time. That daily step of obedience will always lead you towards the completion and fulfilment of what God has called you to do.

Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

Your daily choices determine whether you follow the path of blessings or curses. God cannot choose or decide for you, the best He can do is show you. That is why He gave us the Holy Spirit; our guide, teacher and helper. However, we cannot force Him, but we can choose to follow Him. Make up your mind to choose blessings and life.

Each day you are confronted with a choice to make; ask yourself if it leads to life and blessings or to death and curses. All these effects do not manifest on the same day but are cumulative effects that you will feel after a while; three days or five years from now.

Psalm 25:9 The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way.

That is why we should make a prayer of surrender: God guide me, lead me and direct me for I do not know enough. The meek are those who say they do not know enough and are humble enough to receive instruction.

Most of the suffering believers go through is a result of their choices, not because God or the Holy Spirit are weak. The moment you choose, you seize the opportunity to determine the harvest. For example, when you sow maize, do not expect to reap something other than maize. You should therefore be careful with the choices you make because they are the seeds you are planting for tomorrow’s harvest.

1 Samuel 15:22 “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.

Do not make wrong choices and pray to God expecting Him to reverse them. Much as He is merciful, there are principles He laid out for this life. You cannot bribe God with prayer and fasting. Prayer is not an end but a means to an end. You cannot sacrifice or sow seeds of millions or billions to bribe God out of disobedience.

If we love the God we claim to love, the choice is in the daily decisions we make regarding relationships, finances or our walk with Him. Everything is spelled out in the Word: God has laid out the perimeter within which we can function but there is also an individual personal direction that the Holy Spirit gives you to maneuver by.

We are all individuals in progress. However, we slow down the work of God in our lives by walking in disobedience and making wrong choices. When you make detours, God will bring you back but that will delay you. That is why the Holy Spirit is there to guide you.

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Everything you choose that is of God will bring life and blessings into your life. It could be a painful path, but it will bring life because God will be there. Do not run away or choose the easy path, take the path because God has chosen it for you. (Matthew 7:13)

Because of the temporary discomfort and inconvenience of famine, Naomi and her family decided to leave Israel for the land of Moab which was cursed by God. This is because what looked like a blessing was in the land of Moab while what looked like a curse was in Israel. The choices she made resulted in the loss of her husband and sons. (Ruth 1:1-5)

If you fear God, do not just make choices because your life is not your own, consult Him. Avoid unnecessary battles and prayer requests before the Lord for all you need is to be patient and listen to his instructions.

Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.

There are blessings that come with sorrow; the blessing of the enemy. Learn to look beyond the blessings, to the source of the blessings and make your choice accordingly. I caution you to hear what the Spirit is saying.

STAY BLESSED AND HIGHLY FAVORED, WE LOVE YOU.
