Brokenness, humility and contrition of spirit is one of the things that creates an environment through which we can permanently host God.  The other is being tender hearted.

Ephesians 4:29-31 GNT [29] Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you.

What kind of words have you been using? How many of the words that you have spoken have been helpful to people?

Sometimes we are rejected not because of the spirit of rejection but when people come near us, the words we speak leave them depressed and discouraged.

Ephesians 4:30 [30] And do not make God’s Holy Spirit sad;…

How do we make the Holy Spirit sad? When we say things to people that break or make them feel low, discouraged and depressed. This makes the Holy Spirit sad.

Whether a person is saved or not, Jesus paid a high price for them all and puts the same value on everyone. Therefore, your words should bring life to people and not death.

Ephesians 4:31-32 GNT [31] Get rid of all bitterness, passion, and anger. No more shouting or insults, no more hateful feelings of any sort.

Having bitterness and anger, shouting insults and hurtful feelings of all sort make the Holy Spirit sad. If you are harboring any of them, cry to the Holy Spirit for deliverance.

When your heart is pure, you will be successful in all that you do because you will want the best for everyone and not wish anyone bad. (Matthew 5:8).

Ephesians 4:32 [32]Instead, be kind and tender-hearted to one another, and forgive one another, as God has forgiven you through Christ.

Are you tender? Are you moved by the suffering of humanity? The hardening of your heart will affect all areas of your life including your relationship with God.

We all go through troubles but you must come to a place in your walk with God where you prize your relationship with God more than your feelings or emotions with men.

Don’t make the Holy Spirit sad because He is the only helper we have. God is love, Jesus is grace and the Holy Spirit is the presence. Without the Holy Spirit, we cannot experience the virtues in God. That is why we must labor not to make Him sad. If He senses something bad or if you make Him sad, He becomes silent in your life.

Ephesians 4:29-31 AMP [29] Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].[30] And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [but seek to please Him], by whom you were sealed and marked [branded as God’s own] for the day of redemption [the final deliverance from the consequences of sin].[31] Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor [perpetual animosity, resentment, strife, fault-finding] and slander be put away from you, along with every kind of malice [all spitefulness, verbal abuse, malevolence].

Those things grieve the Holy Spirit and make Him silent in your life.

Hidden sins are the biggest hinderance of fellowship both with God and fellow brethren.

The Holy Spirit is the helper that has been sent to help; no matter what you are dealing with, He can make you a better person, cry to Him.
