We are in a season of warfare, and we must understand the times and seasons in which we are operating. Some things happen in the kingdom of darkness that we need to discern and confront through prayer.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 To everything [there is] a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:…
We must understand that just as God operates in times and seasons, the enemy also operates in patterns and cycles. The devil has nothing original; he copies.
If you carefully study your life, you may notice that certain things seem to happen repeatedly at particular times of the year. So, we need to learn to discern these patterns so we can nip them in the bud—deal with them before they develop and become something greater.
Numbers 14:41-42 And Moses said, “Now why do you transgress the command of the LORD? For this will not succeed. Do not go up, lest you be defeated by your enemies, for the LORD [is] not among you.
The children of Israel learned that when they went to fight presumptuously, without God’s presence, they would be defeated. Their victory was never about their weapons or experience; it was because God was with them.
The presence and approval of God are our greatest advantage. David and Moses understood this because the former inquired of God before going into battle, and the latter told God that they did not want to move toward Canaan without His presence.
We are making great progress in the realm of the Spirit, but as we continue in warfare, we must be careful to ensure that we don’t have anything that belongs to the devil.
We must understand the legal basis for our authority so that we do not depend on feelings, but on knowledge.
If you are not born again, the authority we are exercising in this dimension will not work for you, because our authority and permission come from our relationship with God.
So as a warrior, know the legal reasons for rebelling against satan and let it be your foundation for standing against darkness. Amongst them are;
1. Jesus paid it all-Colossians 2:14–15
Jesus cancelled the record that stood against us and made a public spectacle of the powers and principalities of darkness, stripping them of their spiritual authority and power to accuse us.
Therefore, Satan has nothing on you anymore to accuse you. This is the first legal reason for your rebellion against the devil: you owe the devil nothing; you have no debt, because Jesus paid it all.
2. Christ redeemed us from the curse-Galatians 3:13
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. Therefore, the curse that the enemy would use against you has been dealt with by Jesus.
3. We were ransomed from an empty way of life-1 Peter 1:18–19
We were not redeemed with silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ. You have been taken away from those traditions; they no longer carry any right over you. You have been bought out and broken out.
We are not saying everything in our culture is demonic, but we must discern and refuse anything contrary to God.
4. We were transferred from the kingdom of darkness into God’s kingdom, transferred into Christ.- Colossians 1:13–14; Ephesians 1:6; 15–22*
God has delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of His Son. We are now in Christ, in the Kingdom of God. Therefore, darkness has no rightful place in our lives. We must recognise our new position and stand firmly in the authority and victory Christ has given us.
5. The Greater One Is in You, and You have overcome the wicked one
1 John 4:4, 1 John 2:14.
The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. This revelation should give you the boldness of a lion. Satan cannot bully you because the Greater One lives in you. When you have that awareness, you know that Jesus will handle the enemy for you.
The devil may have power, but his power cannot be compared with the authority and power Christ has given you. You are not flexing muscles with someone of your rank. The devil is beneath you, and you must take your stand from the knowledge of what Jesus has already done.
6. Righteousness in Christ
Righteousness is a gift from God that we receive through Christ. The blood has made you righteous, and Jesus Himself has become your righteousness. You are not merely carrying righteousness; you are wearing the very garment Jesus is wearing.
Therefore, your identity is no longer determined by what people think about you or by your weaknesses. Keep working on your weaknesses, but know your position in Christ and stand in the righteousness He has given you.
Things you need to do to walk effectively in spiritual warfare—exit strategy.
The most important key in engaging these strategies is having a relationship with God—you must be born again. These strategies include:
a) Confession- 1 John 1:5-9. True repentance involves both confession and forsaking.
b) Renunciation-This involves taking practical steps to separate yourself from physical things connected to former practices or agreements that are contrary to your walk with Christ.
c). Declaration- You declare what is legally yours according to the Word of God. There is something in the Word of God that deals with whatever is troubling you. Find that Word and declare it.
d). Standing and Staying Power (Ephesians 6:13–14).
When challenges come, do not surrender your position or allow circumstances to move you. Having done everything, remain firm, keep trusting God, and continue to stand your ground.
God has given us the will and authority to choose what we allow in our lives. We must exercise that will, reject what is contrary to God, resist the devil, and stand firmly in the authority Christ has given you.
