It came to pass at midnight that the Lord struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock…Exodus 12:29

The Lord wiped out all the firstborns of Egypt because they had used them as offerings to dedicate and sell themselves out to their gods through demonic worship, witchcraft, and child sacrifice.

A nation covenanted to God was being held captive by the spirit of witchcraft, sorcery, and divination.

You need to understand that life is spiritual. God recognized that the manipulations and oppressions on the children of Israel were a result of demonic influence.

Exodus 12:12 ..against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.

When the sacrifice for witchcraft was broken, Pharaoh let go of the children of Israel (Exodus 10:24).

God instituted certain spiritual practices to help us dominate the spirit world so that our human experience can be more enjoyable.

Prayer is one of them, to help us manipulate the spirit realm and exercise our authority.

Jesus spent days and nights in the presence of God in prayer. ( Luke 6:12).

Life is supernatural, driven, and controlled by the spirit. It is the spirit that gives meaning and functionality to the body. ( James 2:26)

The Word is the second practice.

Joshua had to engage the Word to conquer and lead the Israelites into the promised land.

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

He contended with the enemies by activating angelic activity through exercising the Word. The physical aspect was simply a replay of what had taken place in the realm of the spirit.

Studying the Word is spiritual and contributes a lot to your success.

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

We pray, fast, and seek God daily, not because of challenges but because we are spirit beings and life is more spiritual than natural so that’s our lifestyle.

As long as we are in this world, we will always have demonic attacks against us ( Ephesians 2:2).

It is through prayer that we fall back into our real positions and engage spiritual forces to fulfill our purposes here on earth.

Psalms 82:6-7 I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Highest. But you shall die like men, And fall like one of the princes.”

Your true identity comes into play during prayer.

Prayer is a work of the spirit. That’s why Jesus prayed intensely. He understood that the natural is controlled by the spiritual world.

His disciples realized that His success was because of His prayer life so they asked Him to teach them to pray. ( Luke 11:1)

Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.

Temptation is not natural. It is demonic forces manipulating situations.

Matthew 4:4 ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’

Just as the human body is fed on bread, the spirit is nourished by the Word.

Divine energy flows in your spirit every time you read the Word and enables you to withstand temptations.

Don’t permit human activities to become your major focus and you neglect the place of prayer.

The spiritual dimension of life is the driving factor for either success or failure.

Psalms 8:4-5 What is the man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

When man sinned, he lost his glory and inherited the nature of the enemy. Sin became his default position.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

When Jesus died for us on the cross as our substitute, we were crucified with Him and He paid a full price for all our transgressions. ( Galatians 2:20, Isaiah 53).

He started with the spirit by recreating a new spirit within us. ( The New creation). He did not start with the physical.

We too need to always start with the spirit if we are to have maximum and lasting results and success.
