There is nothing new under the sun: that which was is that which will be. The things our fathers dealt with are the same forces we are confronted with today, only that in our time, there is an escalation of wickedness.
Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
People have become bold with their evil lifestyles—what was once hidden is now practised openly. Just as it was prophesied, there is a time when people call light darkness and darkness light, good evil and evil good. This is because Satan has found his way into the hearts of men, and many have developed a reprobate mind.
The forces are the same, but the degree is higher. If we do not understand this, we will not respond correctly. That is why God is calling us to a higher level of sensitivity and discernment.
Just as Jesus was able to function as a lamb and a lion, you must discern the season and the moment of your life to know when to behave as a lamb or as a lion lest the enemy take advantage of you.
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”
The enemy we are dealing with knows a lot about you, right from Genesis chapter 3. He has been here before, he has studied you, he knows your weaknesses and your strengths—he knows everything. But there is no cause for alarm as long as you are in Jesus. You must have that mindset and keep it alive.
What we are dealing with is not physical—it is spiritual. This spiritual warfare started in heaven and confronted man in the Garden of Eden.
Life is spiritual. Don’t read what is happening to your life only on the surface. Your real enemy is not flesh and blood. The enemy wants to distract you and make you focus on people, yet he shifts from one person to another.
Below are some examples we can learn from that life is spiritual.
Exodus 17:11-12 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands [became] heavy; so they took a stone and put [it] under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
How does the lifting of hands bring victory? As Moses lifted his hands, Israel prevailed. When his hands went down, the enemy prevailed. This shows that the outcome of a physical battle was determined in the spirit realm.
Joshua 6
When Joshua faced Jericho, God gave him an instruction: this was not a physical strategy but a spiritual strategy, which called for obedience. They marched, remained silent, and then shouted. The wall did not fall by human strength—it responded to spiritual instruction.
2 Kings 6:15–17
When Elisha’s servant saw the army surrounding them, he was afraid. But Elisha saw beyond the physical and knew that the ones who were for them were more than those against them. The enemy was struck with blindness.
This shows that what is happening in the spirit determines what manifests in the physical.
1 Samuel 17
David did not rely on physical armour. He understood the battle was spiritual. Even Goliath came in the name of his gods, David came in the name of the Lord. The victory was not physical—it was spiritual.
Exodus 12:11-12
When God delivered the children of Israel, He said, “I will judge the gods of Egypt.” This shows that before there was physical deliverance, there was a spiritual judgment.
The children of Israel were held in bondage not just physically, but spiritually. When the spiritual power was broken, the physical captivity ended.
Ephesians 2:6 – And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
We are seated with Christ in heavenly places. That means our position is above the forces we are dealing with. We fight from above, not from below.
Jesus has given us authority over all the power of the enemy. But if you do not understand that life is spiritual, you will not walk in that authority. (Luke 10:19)
Beloved, until you understand that life is spiritual, you will misinterpret battles, fight the wrong enemies, and lose ground unnecessarily. But when you understand that life is spiritual, you will begin to see beyond the surface, discern correctly, and respond with wisdom.
