2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith
The Christian walk is not a casual journey but a life of constant spiritual warfare. We are therefore not permitted to take off our armour at any time. During festive and holiday seasons, many let down their guard and become vulnerable, yet these are the moments when we must remain spiritually alert and sensitive.
Satan is highly deceptive, and human strength or wisdom is insufficient to withstand him. Our greatest defence is the Word of God firmly rooted within us. God’s instructions, like His command to Adam in Genesis, were given for protection, not restriction. Disobedience then led to the fall, just as disobedience today exposes us to danger.
Our safety is found in obedience to God and to the spiritual authorities He has placed in our lives. To alter or ignore God’s instructions is rebellion. Obedience is wisdom, protection, and alignment with God’s will.
Matthew 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
One way we can start and finish strong, like Apostle Paul, is by understanding that we are in spiritual warfare and that we are soldiers in the Lord’s army. In this army, there is no leave—we are fully armed and on duty 24/7, because there is an enemy determined to stop the fulfilment of our destiny.
Ephesians 6:12–13
Life is spiritual; things do not just happen, you have to fight. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this age, spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Evil days are real, but they must not catch us off guard. While it is not wrong to feast or celebrate, it is dangerous to lose spiritual sensitivity.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 [24] Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it…
The Christian race is not a walk but a run, and it is run with the intention of receiving the prize. While many are in the race, some believers walk when they should be running. Running profitably means running in the right direction, because speed in the wrong direction is wasted effort.
A successful race requires;
Self-control that helps us start and run at the right time, guided by instruction and spiritual sensitivity.
Accuracy that ensures we do not fight aimlessly but strike the right target, relying on the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Discipline that keeps our bodies under subjection so we avoid compromise and disqualification.
Habakkuk 3:17-18
Faith is essential to remain steadfast, even when nothing seems to be happening. A man of faith stays locked in, rejoicing and trusting that God rewards those who diligently seek Him (Jeremiah 29:13; Hebrews 11:6).
The righteous stand by faith; even when they fall, they rise again, refusing to give up. (Job 13:15; Galatians 6:9).
Therefore, be diligent and stay at your post. Do not lower your guard because of seasons or festivities. Maintain your prayer life, stay rooted in the Word, and remain spiritually alert. Our testimony should be one of continuous progress—from glory to glory. Fight the good fight, keep the faith, and you will finish well, just as Apostle Paul did.
