The Lord is emphasizing to us to deepen our fellowship with Him. There are steps we need to take to enrich our fellowship with the Godhead:

  1. Developing a conscious awareness of the Presence of God.

Living conscious of the presence of the Holy Spirit means being conscious of the things you watch, what goes through your mind, mouth, and the things you do.

Having that deliberate consciousness of God’s presence will restrain you from doing things that you know could grieve the Holy Spirit and that is how your fellowship is enriched.

Genesis 39:7-12 And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what [is] with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. [There is] no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you [are] his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”…

There are certain things Joseph could not do because he was conscious of God’s presence. It is that consciousness that restrained him from fulfilling those human desires yet the opportunity was available.

As believers, we can walk victoriously over temptations or the seduction of sin by having a conscious awareness of God’s presence.

John 3:6-7 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

There’s no Christianity without the Spirit of the Lord. It is your walk with Him that gives you the power to live a life that pleases God.

  1. Having a Set mind.

You dominate sin by saying No to the flesh. Every time you deny it, it screams until it gets to a point where it quietens down.

Human desires will always be there but you need to have a set mind about sin.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what [is] that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those [who live] according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

When you have a position about a certain temptation, it is easy for you to say no when it comes your way.

Set your mind to do the Word and the Holy Spirit will empower your resolution.

The devil never makes a man sin but you sin because you decided to.

God gave man the power of a will. He doesn’t tamper with anyone’s will.

You have the power of choice that even when Adam decided to eat of the tree of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, God did not interfere with him. That is a gift that God has given us:

You can decide to be either on God’s side or against Him, you can hate Him or love Him but He will not interfere.

You cannot stop temptations from coming your way. Desires of the flesh will always be there but God gave you willpower. The only way you can effectively deal with these desires of the body is to have a set mind.

Romans 8:7-8 Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

You can never please God with a mind of sin. It is not enough to pray, there are activities you have to engage in and some to disengage.

You cannot say you want to walk with God and still live the same way you used to. That doesn’t show someone serious with God.

Make up your mind with the help of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is a helper. He is not a decision maker but the moment you take a step, He empowers you and that is what He is waiting for to set up your mind.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

It is the Heavens that gave birth to the earth: it is the spirit that gives birth to the physical. That is why you need to pay close attention to your spiritual life. People are lazy to pray, read the Word, and fast because they do not treat life spiritually but materialistically.

I believe with my whole heart that it is possible to live a life that is hundred percent victorious over sin.

Jesus lived a hundred percent victorious over sin and He has become our example (Philippians 2:5, Acts 17:28).

Today I pray that the Holy Spirit will empower us to develop a God consciousness and have a set mind to help us walk away from sin.  All this is to help us deepen our fellowship with God (Genesis 5:24).
