GENUINE HUNGER AND THIRST FOR GOD

Dec 1, 2022

There are two things about the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer that the enemy usually tampers with to reduce you to a religious and nominal Christian.

  1. The number one ministration of the Holy Spirit in your life is to furnish your heart with the love of God.

It is so easy to be caught up in activities, run around and do everything right but when it is flowing from a place of duty, ritual, and performance but your heart is far removed.

Romans 5:5… “the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

One of the primary ministries of the Holy Spirit is to furnish and saturate our hearts with God’s love so that whatever activity we engage ourselves in, springs from that platform of love.

Love is the only motive God recognizes for our performance. Any motive outside love for whatever you do whether giving, praying, or fasting if it is not primarily propelled by love, sister, or brother, that activity has minimal impact on the spirit.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…”

God doesn’t need to do anything to prove Himself.

The reason why He heals, saves, delivers, etc. is that He loves. So, when you see a lame man walk, the blind see, a sinner saved, God is manifesting His love.

Revelation 2:4 “Nevertheless I have [this] against you, that you have left your first love.”

The people of this church were doing everything right but not flowing from the place of their first love.

What is the first love?

That is the love that the Holy Spirit furnished in your heart the day you gave your life to Jesus. That passion, burning for Him, joy, and excitement that you had where you cared about nothing but only God.

Psalms 122:1 “I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the LORD.””

It is the moving and working of the Holy Spirit upon the tablets of hearts that brings intimacy with God.

Mr. Preacher man, husband, wife, minister, hear what the Spirit is saying tonight, where is the joy, excitement, and gladness that once propelled your spiritual activity, the love that governed your worship, your giving, your preaching, etc.

  1. Divine Hunger and thirst for God

The Holy Spirit is the one who furnishes our hearts with divine hunger and thirst for God.

Isaiah 29:13 “Therefore the Lord said:  ” Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but have removed their hearts far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,”

What has happened to your hunger, you used to spend hours worshipping Jesus, feeding on the word of God but now you open the Bible, it’s like a history book, you lift your voice to worship, and it’s like no life in it at all, you have lost the appetite, the hunger is gone.

Proverbs 16:26 “The appetite of the laborer works for him, for [the need of] his mouth urges him on.”

The reason why spiritual things have become boring for you is because you have lost the taste for the things of God.

You have developed an appetite for strange food, desires that are foreign to the kingdom of God have taken over your soul, the appetite of the flesh has overridden you, the lust of the eyes has taken charge of your life, and you have reduced yourself to a nominal Christian.

Isaiah 55:1-2 “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for [that which is] not bread? and your labour for [that which] satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye [that which is] good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.”

The reason why people are not coming is that they are not thirsty.

Ask the Lord to free your heart from all the dirt; the anger, bitterness, envy, job, expectations that have not been met which have filled your heart, and ask Him to renew your first love and hunger.
