DESIRING GOD ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE

Feb 9, 2023

This little girl Mary was willing to let the engagement/wedding wait for the sake of giving birth to a move of God that would change the entire face of the earth. She agreed to what God was telling her without even consulting her boyfriend.

Luke 1:26-38, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name [was] Mary. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. 38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Can God have such a place in your life that you can put everything on hold to see the dream of God finding expression in your life? How many of us are willing to put that journey, friendship, sleep, food, etc. on hold because God has said so?

Psalms 42:1-2 As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Despite the flaws in his life, David was a man whose heart beat after God (Psalms 63:1-2). Even though he was a lover of God, he never had enough of Him; there was always something on the inside of him that was compelling him to go after God with everything on the inside of him.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, you can arrive at a place in God where your desire, yearning, and longing for God transcends and supersedes every other desire in your life so that everything else loses its hold on you and God becomes everything.

It’s not a mere religious practice but your spirit, soul, and body are hundred per cent engaged/absorbed in God. It was this that made men like Abraham hear the voice of God because another desire rose stronger than the family or national pull (Genesis 12:1).

Luke 7:37-38 And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that [Jesus] sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind [Him] weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped [them] with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed [them] with the fragrant oil.

There is a desire that enters your heart and makes you give everything you have to the Master. She did not look at the amount of money because she perceived Him more than that: she didn’t drop a few drops but everything upon Him. Something about Jesus captured her heart that she knew: this is the man, I will waste myself on Him. And He became the sole desire and drive of her life.

Luke 7:39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw [this,] he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman [this is] who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.”

Matthew 26:10 But when Jesus was aware of [it,] He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me.

Do you know something you can do for Jesus that will change the conversation in your family, workplace, etc.? What have you done for Him? What is the testimony of Jesus about your activity? Have you done it for Him or because you are expecting something in return?

Jesus was so proud of her, everywhere he went people were expecting things from Him, men were always at the receiving end, and Jesus was at the giving end not until He met this woman.

The rest of the people, including Mary we’re giving to facilitate the ministry of Jesus but only this woman whom they called a sinner gave personally to Jesus in the entire history of His ministry*(Luke 8:3)*.

Men make sacrifices because they love. Do you love Him enough to let go of your best, to walk away and let go of that habit, girlfriend, or boyfriend? When your desire for Him transcends all that you desire then you have stepped out of the realm of the ordinary.

2 Samuel 6:13-14 And so it was, when those bearing the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, that he sacrificed oxen and fatted sheep. Then David danced before the LORD with all [his] might; and David [was] wearing a linen ephod.

When King David went for the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom, he threw everything on God, looked like a fool before his people but danced the presence of God into Israel. The religion we play in the church is because we have not yet understood the King who died for us.

I pray that God gives us a fresh revelation that will help us let everything go and desire only Him. Tonight, may He awaken something in your spirit that you will never again give God half-backed things but give Him your best.
