DELIBERATE CONSCIOUSNESS OF GOD’S PRESENCE

Luke 5:1-11 …[4] When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” [5] But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your word I will let down the net.” [6] And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking… [9] For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken;…

The disciples caught nothing for an entire night, but when Jesus entered the boat and used it, something happened to it; they caught fish in such abundance that they had never experienced in their history of fishing.

Remember, nothing had changed: the water, the net, and the boat were still the same, but it was the presence of Jesus in the boat that changed everything. Not only did Jesus come in, but the disciples were willing to lay down their past experiences of failure, embrace the word of the Lord, and see the miracle. (Luke 5:5)

In John 21:3-8, the disciples decided to go back to fishing after the crucifixion of Jesus. However, throughout the entire night, they caught nothing, but when Jesus showed up at dawn and instructed them to cast their nets to the right, they had an abundant and remarkable catch of fish.

In John 2:1-21, when Mary realised they had run out of wine at the wedding of Cana, she told the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” It was only when they recognised His presence that He was able to do a miracle for them.

Much as Jesus was present in all those occasions, nothing happened in their lives until they consciously recognised His presence, yielded to His instructions, and gave Him His rightful place in their lives. It was then that the miracle happened.

That means that Jesus can be in a home, in a life, in a family, and you can still live your life ordinarily with nothing unique or special; our strength, winning formula, victory, and what sets us apart as believers in this life are found in recognising and intentionally remaining conscious of the presence of Jesus.

The challenge with the body of Christ today is—yes, we are born again and have accepted Christ as our Lord and Saviour, but we have not developed that daily consciousness of God’s presence in our lives. Yet, it is that consciousness that brings about the miraculous.

The presence of God is the ultimate solution to the predicament of humanity. All the men of God we see in the Bible derived their confidence from this consciousness that God was with them. (Exodus 33:15, Psalm 23:5)

Acts 10:38

If you want to live a victorious Christian life, you must deliberately acknowledge the presence of God. When you develop that understanding, you will begin to witness the finger of God at work in your life.

At the wedding of Cana, Jesus produced in a moment what would have taken them months. That is what the presence of God brings into our lives; He makes life easy, and the salvation experience beautiful.

What God cannot do when put in His hands does not exist. The Bible says that He gives us beauty for ashes, the garment of praise where there is sorrow and mourning, and He is able to turn your darkness into light. (Isaiah 61:3)

The secret is in having faith and confidence in His ability, which comes from consciously recognising His presence (God with us).
