God began by creating the spirit of man, formed the body and when He breathed into him, man became a living soul.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over… [27]So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Everything that man has ever needed dwells in his/her spirit because it is what looks like God (in the Image of God). However, the controlling factor of the quality of life that any man lives is their soul which is made up of the mind, will and emotions.

Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Remember man is a tripartite being, having a spirit, soul and body. Both the body and the spirit fight to take control of the soul. Whatever dominates the mind (soul) is what will be manifested in one’s life.

Galatians 5:16-17 [16]I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. [17]For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

The greatest battle is between the body (flesh) and the spirit to take over the soul (mind).

You can either be led by the body (flesh) or the spirit but the two cannot mix.

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…

The belief system is affected by the mind. Whoever has your mind, has you.

Every attack of the enemy whether against your finances, marriage, health etc., is targeting your mind; to twist it and make you doubt what you have in your spirit.

That is why the most important thing you can do after salvation is the renewal of your mind (Romans 12:2).

2 Corinthians 5:16-17 [16]Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. [17]Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

The day you get saved, you stop regarding men and decisions after the flesh.

At the cross, God perfected everything concerning your spirit. There is no pain, sickness, disease, death etc. in your spirit but there is deliverance, health, healing, anointing, etc.

But God never took away your willpower. You have to renew your mind by the Word to affect your will.

Everything God put in your spirit can not access your life unless you permit it through your mind. So the mind is the determinant of the kind of life you live whether spiritual or carnal.

Ephesians 4:20 But you have not so learned Christ,

When you give your life to Christ, He becomes the focus of your study. Perfect liberty is found in the Word which is Christ. Therefore to know Jesus, you must study the Word (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Equip your mind with the Word and let what you have in your mind affect your behaviour.

You can never manifest the fullness of what God put in your spirit until it saturates your mind. If your mind can not get it, you cannot be it.

That is why you need to take time reading the Word because if you don’t, you will die like a mere man (Psalms 82:6-7).

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

“Day and night” means making it a habit to meditate on the Word. No matter how much you pray and fast, if there is no Word in your spirit, you will yield minimal or no results.

Read 2 Timothy 1:7 AMPC

You already have a sound mind (the thoughts of God) and the thoughts of God are His Word. It is through the Word that you begin to change the frequency of your mind and align it with the thoughts of God.

Romans 12:1-2

It is very possible to be conformed to the standards of the world.

Remember there are many vessels in the house of God and you determine which kind of vessel you want to be; whether of honour or of dishonour (2 Timothy 2:20-21).

Sin is one of the things that make you a vessel of dishonour and not useful in the house of the Master; that is why we must be transformed by renewing our minds with the Word of God.
