It is very easy to be trapped in the cycle of religious activities while life is no longer there; that is a true definition of religion.

God is always searching for a heart that beats after Him. Oftentimes as we journey on this path, lots of things begin to compete for our attention and before long, the hearts drift but the activities still go on. That is a sad place to be because you begin to perform like a machine.

Revelation 2:2-4 “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars, and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have [this] against you, that you have left your first love.

The church of Ephesus was doing everything right but without life.  You can program yourself to pray, fast, preach and do all those spiritual activities but with no life. Our activities must be birthed from a place of fellowship not mere performance of activities.

That is why the Lord will always remind us to get back to our first love; the place where the church of Ephesus had departed from. They were simply governed by the letter, doing what is right but the life and spirit were not there; governed by laws and not love.

What is governing your spiritual activities? You can be ruled by love or by law. The Lord is calling us to a place of rich fellowship with Him.

Isaiah 29:13 Therefore the Lord said:  ” Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men.

These people did everything right but their hearts had departed from the Lord while something else was driving their activities. I challenge each one of us to check ourselves whether you are operating from a place of relationship governed by laws or a place of fellowship governed by life.

Martha was a kitchen Christian while Mary knew how to sit at the feet of Jesus (Luke 10:28-42). Many believers are going about the business of the Master but do not know the Master; running shows in the name of Jesus but the Lord is not there.

John 5:39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.

The Pharisees knew the scriptures but when the Jesus they were waiting for came, they rejected Him. This is what religion does, it holds onto the letter and ignores life.

Man was created for fellowship. That is why you are the only creature that was created in God’s image with the intent that through fellowship, we exercise dominion on the earth while God takes the glory.

Jeremiah 2:13 ” For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, [And] hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.

They left the living water and tried to look for cisterns of their own water. Therefore, not every water that flows is from the Lord, some of them are man-made rivers not the river of the spirit. It is possible to create your own water and deceive yourself that it is the flow of the Lord.

John 4:6-7, 13-14 [6] Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from [His] journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. [7]A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.[13] Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, [14] but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

For years, she drank from the well of Jacob but her life never changed. She went from one husband to another because she drank from a well dug by a man.

Could that be the reason why you are stuck in that place? The reason why your life is stagnated and things are not moving? Could you be drinking from the wells dug by men?

Hear the call from heaven tonight; the Lord is inviting us to a table of fellowship. Let us stay away from routines or trying to keep up with appearances because this is life not a show.

Let us live our lives before the Master, let God be our audience and as we live in this consciousness, we will stay on a path of truth and life.
